The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has introduced a simplified permit procedure, allowing contractors to directly secure approvals for minor construction work on residential properties, villas, farmhouses and holiday homes across Abu Dhabi.
Permissible minor works include building cement and metallic structures, extensions up to 25 square metres, non-structural interior or exterior modifications, general maintenance and interior finishes, the construction of swimming pools, canopies and shaded structures, and the erection or alteration of fences.
Commenting on the development, HE Abdulla Mohamed Al Blooshi, Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Infrastructure Sector at DMT, said: “This new process allows residents to improve their homes more efficiently while ensuring that projects are delivered in line with safety and design standards. It reduces time and cost burdens, supports the construction sector, and enhances compliance with clear, straightforward guidelines.”
The move follows the rollout of Binaa, the AI-powered construction permits platform, as part of Abu Dhabi’s overarching vision to remain a global model for liveability and efficient public services.
