The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) made a significant impact at GITEX Global 2023, a prominent global innovation summit. As part of the Abu Dhabi government pavilion, and in the company of 33 other entities, DMT signed three groundbreaking Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).

The first MOU, a collaborative effort with Amazon Web Services, focuses on AWS Smart Cities, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. The second MOU was signed with Mohamed Bin Zayed Artificial Intelligence University, reinforcing DMT's commitment to advancing AI research and smart city initiatives. The third MOU was signed with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, aiming to enhance cooperation and exchange information regarding the regulation of the handling of hazardous petroleum materials.

HE Omar Al Nuaimi, Director General for Corporate Affairs at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, highlighted the alignment of GITEX Global 2023 with DMT's mission to lead technological advancements, enhance service delivery, and contribute to the development of Abu Dhabi's municipal and transport infrastructure. These MOUs represent a significant step towards shaping the future of AI and technology. 

Upon signing the MoU with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, His Excellency Abdulla Al Marzouqi
Director General of the Integrated Transport center (ITC), said: "This agreement aims to enhance road security and safety through continuous monitoring and tracking of vehicles transporting hazardous materials as part of our comprehensive strategy to promote traffic safety."

Dr. Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director-General of the Regulatory Affairs Department at the abu Dhabi Department of Energy, emphasised that the memorandum of understanding falls within the framework of cooperation and coordination among various government entities in Abu Dhabi. The purpose is to integrate procedures, automate and expedite the services provided, exchange information and data, and build an effective and sustainable partnership to achieve common strategic objectives.

He added that through the memorandum of understanding, they aim to establish a working mechanism and a common framework for cooperation and information exchange concerning the transportation of hazardous petroleum materials and electronic integration between the petroleum material trading permits system at the Energy Department and the tracking of commercial vehicles transporting hazardous materials in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through the "Fleets" integrated fleet management system under the Department of Municipalities and Transport.

Mr. Sultan Al Hajji, Vice President of Public Affairs and Alumni Relations at MBZUAI, said: “AI is key to enabling cities to become smarter and more efficient by driving innovation in everything from transport to smart homes and smart grids. As the world’s first university dedicated to AI research, MBZUAI is ideally placed to collaborate with DMT to help advance new technologies and solutions to position Abu Dhabi at the forefront of smart city innovation.”

As DMT engages with industry leaders, innovators, and global experts at GITEX Global 2023, they usher in a new era of technological advancement and innovation within Abu Dhabi's municipality and transport sector.
