Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has called on pet owners to register their pets and keep their information up to date through the "Animal Ownership" service on the TAMM platform, emphasising that registration is an important responsibility that contributes to protecting animals, safeguarding owners' rights, facilitating the identification and return of lost pets, and supporting the animal welfare system across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Since its launch, the service has seen a significant increase in registrations from pet owners in Abu Dhabi through the "TAMM" platform. This reflects a growing public awareness of the importance of registration and contributes to the creation of a central database linking each animal to its owner, while also supporting verification of microchip records and vaccinations, and facilitating the transfer of ownership.
Omar Mohammed Al Shehhi, Acting Executive Director of the Municipal Services Sector at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, stated that pet registration represents a fundamental pillar in establishing an integrated and sustainable system for managing pet ownership across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, based on responsibility, accurate data, and cooperation between government entities, veterinary establishments and members of the community.
He added that Abu Dhabi City Municipality seeks to make registration and data updating a basic practice for every owner, which will enhance compliance with all animal welfare principles and achieve leadership in these practices.
The Municipality explained that the "Animal Ownership" service applies to cats and dogs. To complete the registration process, the animal must be fitted with a microchip, and the owner must visit an approved veterinary clinic or establishment in Abu Dhabi to complete the required procedures and enter the animal's and owner's details into the system.
Registration requirements include providing accurate and up-to-date information, recent and clear photographs of the animal, and a tenancy contract when requested, to verify the owner's residential details and place of residence. Owners are also required to keep up their pets' vaccinations, veterinary care and periodic health checks, and to update the registered information whenever ownership of the animal is transferred or the owner's details change.
The Municipality continues its efforts to increase compliance through ongoing awareness campaigns targeting various segments of the community in multiple languages. It is also strengthening cooperation with pet owners, veterinary clinics and pet shops, while stepping up inspections of establishments to ensure that animals are registered before being sold or transferred to new owners.
These efforts also include continuously improving and updating the quality of animal and owner data, and further linking registration with the services provided for pets.
The TAMM platform also offers a service for reporting lost and found animals, which has received a number of requests since it began. The service helps identify animals more quickly and supports their return to their owners.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality also monitors breaches through regular inspection visits to establishments dealing with pets, to check their ongoing compliance with the requirements. Inspections include reviewing animal records, checking microchip information and confirming registration in the system, as well as cases identified while dealing with reports, complaints and other animal-related services.
The Municipality called on all cat and dog owners to register their pets and regularly update their information, stressing that taking the initiative to register helps protect animals, safeguard owners' rights, and support a more aware and responsible community.
