Abu Dhabi City Municipality has carried out field inspection campaigns across construction sites on Abu Dhabi Island to assess compliance with environmental protection measures and reinforce adherence to approved requirements. The campaign aims to reduce pollution and maintain the city’s overall appearance.
The campaign targeted contractors and consultants working in the construction sector, as part of the Municipality’s efforts to raise environmental awareness among all stakeholders and promote responsible practices throughout project implementation, in line with Abu Dhabi’s sustainability and quality of life goals.
It focused on educating site personnel on key environmental requirements, particularly the need to assess all environmental risks before starting construction activities. This helps minimise potential negative impacts on the surrounding environment and improves the effectiveness of preventive measures.
The campaign also stressed the importance of keeping construction sites clean, removing stagnant water, and properly disposing of sewage waste and both solid and liquid waste. It highlighted the need to prevent conditions that may attract insects and rodents, supporting public health and environmental safety.
In addition, it emphasised the need for regular inspection of materials and equipment on site to ensure there are no leaks that could cause environmental contamination. Proper water spraying practices were also highlighted, along with the requirement to obtain permits for groundwater discharge in line with approved regulations.
The Municipality further underlined the importance of ensuring the safety of temporary sewage tanks and arranging for their regular removal by approved companies, to maintain safe procedures and protect both the work environment and surrounding areas.
The campaign also stressed the need to separate organic waste from construction and demolition waste on site, and to ensure regular waste removal through licensed companies. This contributes to higher levels of cleanliness and helps prevent random practices that may harm the environment or affect the city’s appearance.
As part of the campaign, warnings were issued to sites found in violation of construction regulations. This reflects the Municipality’s commitment to enforcing applicable laws and ensuring full compliance with environmental standards across all construction sites.
