Abu Dhabi City Municipality organised the “Sustainability Champions” event, targeting school students across Baniyas, Al Wathba, Al Shamkha, Al Shawamekh, Al Adla, and Al Riyadh, in collaboration with the Environment Friends Society, Tadweer Group, TAQA Distribution, Future Leaders School, and Al Riyadh School. The initiative forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness of environmental sustainability and the importance of preserving public appearance among younger generations, while encouraging the adoption of sustainable behaviours through purposeful interactive workshops and experiences.
The event, which engaged approximately 150 students, reflects the Municipality’s commitment to embedding sustainability concepts across the community and instilling positive practices in students from an early age. It reinforces the message that every student can play an active role in protecting the environment and maintaining public appearance through everyday actions at school, at home, and in public spaces.
The programme highlighted the Municipality’s efforts in advancing sustainability and its continued contributions to community service and environmental protection. It also introduced participants to key sustainability concepts and their relevance to daily life, while emphasising the Municipality’s role in safeguarding the environment and enhancing public appearance, alongside encouraging individuals to adopt sustainable practices.
A range of interactive workshops and educational activities were delivered, including a “Do It Yourself” recycling workshop, sessions on water and energy conservation, “My Sustainable Garden”, and “My City is More Beautiful”. These workshops provided students with hands-on learning opportunities, helping to translate sustainability principles into practical, everyday behaviours.
The event also featured the “Sustainability Champions Challenge”, alongside interactive quizzes and competitions, creating an engaging and dynamic environment that encouraged participation, initiative, and learning in an enjoyable and motivating way.
Key messages emphasised that sustainability begins with simple daily actions, such as conserving water and electricity, maintaining cleanliness in public spaces, reducing waste, reusing and recycling materials, planting greenery, and respecting natural resources.
