Abu Dhabi City Municipality is committed to enhancing the quality of infrastructure components by implementing development and rehabilitation projects to improve efficiency and align with the ongoing development in Abu Dhabi and its surroundings. In this context, the Municipality, represented by the Infrastructure and Municipal Assets Sector, in collaboration with "Abu Dhabi Mobility" and Abu Dhabi Police, has completed a project aimed at maintenance and improvements on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street (E10) near Al Raha Beach towards Abu Dhabi.
To ensure the safety of road users during the project’s execution, necessary traffic diversions were established to facilitate movement in the project area.
Technically, the project involved the development of five lanes, along with the right and left shoulders of the road, towards Abu Dhabi.
This project is part of the Municipality’s goals to develop and enhance the efficiency of assets and falls under the city's improvement projects, such as intersections and the existing road network at various locations in Abu Dhabi.
The project included replacing the old asphalt layer with a new one featuring improved and advanced specifications, repairing cracks in the base layer, installing ground reflectors and markings, and replacing old expansion joints with new ones.
Regarding sustainability standards used in the road maintenance, Abu Dhabi City Municipality confirmed that it follows best practices to achieve the highest sustainability rates, especially in material usage. The project involved replacing the damaged asphalt layer with a new one, adding a special layer to strengthen the asphalt, increase its lifespan, and reduce the appearance of cracks on the final surface. This will ensure the road's durability and long-term usability. Additionally, cracks in the base layer were treated, which will significantly extend the road's lifespan and improve its efficiency.
Regarding the goals and expected benefits of the road maintenance project, the Municipality clarified that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street is a vital and important road, serving as a connection point for many cities and areas, including Zayed International Airport, Al Raha Beach, Khalifa City, the entrance to Mussafah, and Yas Island. Thus, the maintenance and development of this street ensure the protection and safety of road users, reduce the likelihood of accidents, and provide safe and smooth traffic flow. The current project extends from the YAS Bridges Complex to the entrance of Mussafah/Sas Al Nakhl at the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, covering a distance of 17 kilometers with a width of 24.5 meters (including five lanes and the right and left shoulders of the road).
