The Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by Abu Dhabi City Municipality, continues to intensify its year-round awareness and inspection campaigns across construction sites in Abu Dhabi. These efforts aim to assess the compliance of construction companies with environmental, health, and safety standards, ensuring a secure working environment that safeguards the health and well-being of all on-site personnel.
In this context, the municipality launched an inspection and awareness campaign focusing on environmental protection requirements at construction sites. The campaign targeted construction sector workers, including contractors and consultants, with the aim of raising awareness of environmental conservation and pollution control practices during project development and implementation. The initiative also aimed to ensure that construction site managers adhere to environmental awareness principles and pollution prevention standards to protect the health and safety of workers.
During the campaign, municipal inspectors verified the availability of environmental protection measures at construction sites and raised awareness among site managers and workers on the importance of compliance. Inspectors emphasized the need for comprehensive environmental risk assessments prior to commencing construction activities and the importance of maintaining clean sites free from stagnant water and unmanaged solid or liquid waste—critical to preventing the formation of breeding grounds for pests and rodents.
Inspectors also educated stakeholders on the importance of routine inspections of all on-site materials and equipment to prevent hazardous leaks. They addressed proper water discharge methods and the requirement to obtain necessary permits for groundwater extraction. The campaign further highlighted the importance of maintaining temporary sewage tanks in good condition and ensuring their regular removal by licensed service providers.
Additionally, the campaign raised awareness about the proper segregation of organic waste from construction and demolition waste at construction sites. It also emphasized the importance of regularly disposing of waste through licensed contractors and mitigating noise pollution by adhering to permissible limits, thereby preserving environmental quality and ensuring the safety of all workers on-site.
