In recognition of its pioneering role in sustainability and environmental stewardship, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by Abu Dhabi City Municipality, has won the “Sustainability Leader” award, presented by the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group. The award reflects the Municipality’s contribution to advancing Abu Dhabi’s vision of sustainable development and underscores its leadership among government entities in this domain.

Dr. Huda Khalifa Al Salami, Director of the Environment, Health and Safety Department under the Municipality Services Sector at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, secured first place in the “Sustainability Leader” category of the 2025 Sustainable Leadership Awards, organized under the patronage of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi. This achievement reflects the excellence of Emirati talent within Abu Dhabi City Municipality and highlights the professionalism and commitment of its team in pursuing the Municipality’s vision for leadership and sustainability, further enhancing its standing on both local and international levels.

This recognition affirms the Municipality’s initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption in buildings, improving air quality in urban areas, enhancing biodiversity, and integrating green infrastructure into urban planning. These initiatives have achieved notable success in lowering building cooling costs, promoting a more sustainable urban environment, reusing greywater in municipal buildings for recycling and hydroponic systems, and implementing energy management systems that have significantly reduced overall energy consumption.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Huda Khalifa Al Salami played a leading role in driving sustainable initiatives that transformed Abu Dhabi City Municipality into a frontrunner in environmental, social, and economic sustainability. She successfully embedded sustainability into the Municipality’s policies and operations through innovative technologies, including virtual reality awareness programs, e-learning for environment, health and safety, smart inspection systems, robotic process automation projects, and various other initiatives such as green rooftops, energy management systems, and support for the Emirate’s single-use material ban initiatives.
