With the goal of raising construction and building professionals’ level of awareness in Occupational Safety and Health System in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, Abu Dhabi City Municipality arranged a workshop in its headquarters -through the City Planning Department, Directorate of Environment, Health, and Safety- about the occupational health and safety requirements for companies in the construction and building sector, whereas the workshop targeted non-Arabic speakers working in that sector.
Moreover, a group of numerous construction and building companies representatives in Abu Dhabi were recruited for the workshop, and many topics defining the framework of the Occupational Safety and Health System in the Abu Dhabi Emirate were discussed in English, as well as the Municipality's role as a regulatory sub-authority in the construction and building sector in Abu Dhabi city, and the roles of other related authorities as well
During the workshop, Municipality representatives provided information and guidance to professionals in the building and construction sector regarding their responsibilities and roles in relation to occupational health and safety. They also explained the procedure for implementing Abu Dhabi Emirate Occupational Health and Safety System. Furthermore, the representatives showcased the method for applying the implementing the Occupational Safety and Health Management
System through the use of the Electronic Performance Measuring System, including guidance on accessing the system and submitting required documents..
In addition to that, many challenges facing the professionals in the construction and building sector in regard to the application of Occupational Safety and Health System in the Abu Dhabi Emirate were discussed, and the inspection method of the companies in the sector was presented along with the inspection process for the Occupational Safety and Health requirements in those companies.
The workshop was wrapped up with questions and inquiries from company representatives in the construction and building sector, and receiving the answers from the Municipality officials, in addition to handing “certifications” to a number of companies that are certified by the Occupational Safety and Health System in the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
