Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi City Municipality organised a field campaign across Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland to raise awareness among owners of public drinking-water coolers of the importance of maintaining their cleanliness and to highlight the health and operational requirements that must be met. The campaign contributes to safeguarding users’ health and safety and enhancing public health standards and quality of life.
The campaign stressed the importance of community cooperation in preserving public drinking-water coolers, using them responsibly and avoiding any practices that could compromise their cleanliness or safety. This reflects the values of shared responsibility and the preservation of public property and facilities.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality emphasised the importance of owners of public drinking-water coolers complying with a set of essential requirements and procedures to ensure the quality of the coolers and the safety of their users. The most important of these are:
Continuously maintaining the cleanliness of the cooler, both internally and externally, as well as the surrounding area.
Regularly cleaning and disinfecting water tanks, taps and water outlets to prevent the accumulation of dirt or contaminants.
Ensuring the safety and quality of the water used and confirming that there are no unusual changes in its colour, taste or odour.
Conducting regular maintenance of the coolers, ensuring the efficiency of their cooling systems and checking for any leaks or faults that could compromise safe use.
Ensuring that water tanks are securely sealed and protected against dust, insects and any potential sources of contamination.
Maintaining the cleanliness of taps and all user-contact areas and preventing the accumulation of deposits on them.
Ensuring the safety of electrical connections and positioning the coolers in safe and appropriate locations to protect users from potential hazards.
Refraining from placing or storing any materials unrelated to drinking water near the coolers or their tanks where they could constitute a source of contamination.
Immediately addressing any damage, leakage, or health-related or operational defect upon detection, and refraining from using the cooler where an issue could compromise the safety of the water or its users.
Adhering to a regular cleaning, disinfection and maintenance programme to ensure that the coolers continue to operate safely and efficiently.
This campaign forms part of Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s ongoing efforts to enhance health and community awareness, foster positive behaviours that contribute to providing a safe and healthy environment, and raise awareness of the importance of complying with the preventive and operational requirements governing facilities that serve members of the community.
