Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has urged the public to carry out sacrificial slaughter exclusively at approved abattoirs, highlighting their critical role in safeguarding public health, protecting the environment, and reducing the risks associated with informal slaughter practices.
The call forms part of an awareness campaign launched under the theme “Our Home: Our Responsibility”, targeting all segments of the community to promote compliance with approved procedures and reinforce the importance of using municipal abattoirs located across the city.
Engineer Hussein Mohsen Al Saeedi, Executive Director of the Sub-Municipal Operations Sector at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, stated that the Municipality has conducted field visits to residential areas to engage directly with the public, alongside organising awareness workshops across various locations to highlight the importance of adhering to health and environmental requirements associated with slaughter practices, while promoting behaviours that protect public safety and the city’s urban appearance.
He added that the Municipality continues to urge community members to avoid arranging slaughter activities in farms or homes through unregulated labour, due to the associated health and safety risks arising from unsafe practices and the absence of proper controls.
To further strengthen awareness and compliance, the Municipality has delivered specialised workshops focusing on environmental, health, and safety requirements within abattoirs, targeting both workers and members of the public.
These sessions covered key aspects of preventive safety, appropriate procedures within abattoir facilities, and the correct practices required to minimise accidents and injuries, ensuring a safe and controlled working environment in line with approved standards.
The workshops also included guidance on emergency procedures and evacuation plans, identification of designated assembly points, and clear instructions on reporting incidents through approved channels, in addition to reinforcing awareness of occupational health and safety requirements for workers in this vital sector.
These preparations form part of a broader programme of initiatives implemented by Abu Dhabi City Municipality to strengthen safety standards within abattoirs, promote sound health practices, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services aligned with leading international standards.
These efforts reflect the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to protecting public health and safety, delivering a safe and sustainable environment, and providing advanced services and regulatory frameworks that enhance customer experience and meet community expectations.
