As part of its efforts to share the joy of Eid Al Adha with the community, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has completed the installation of 3,800 decorative lighting structures across Abu Dhabi Island and mainland cities. The initiative enhances the city’s urban and aesthetic character while reflecting the festive spirit and the values of unity that define Emirati society.
The Eid decorations were delivered in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, which contributed to the selection of lighting colours and design elements. This reflects strong coordination, knowledge-sharing, and the adoption of advanced decorative lighting systems across key locations.
Khaled Allaq Al Hammadi, Project Monitoring Manager at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, stated that the Eid decorations reflect the Municipality’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and reinforcing the city’s urban identity, in line with Abu Dhabi’s standing as a global destination that brings together heritage and modernity. He noted that these efforts aim to create a vibrant urban environment that enhances community wellbeing and showcases the UAE’s cultural identity through a cohesive visual experience across the city.
The total number of decorative structures reached approximately 3,800, featuring a range of celebratory phrases such as “Eid Mubarak”, “Wishing You Well Every Year”, “May You Return in Good Health”, and “From the Blessed and the Fortunate”, contributing to a joyful festive atmosphere.
The decorations incorporate innovative elements, most notably the horizontal suspension of lighting between poles using spherical installations in an elegant off-white tone with a subtle yellow tint. Geometric forms in the same colour have also been installed beneath lighting poles, particularly along Abu Dhabi Corniche. The structures range in size from 2 to 4 metres, creating a strong visual presence that enhances the festive atmosphere.
A unified colour scheme has been adopted across several prominent locations, including Abu Dhabi Corniche, King Abdullah Street, and Al Maqta Bridge, where the refined off-white tone creates a calm and cohesive visual identity. In contrast, other installations feature vibrant colours such as red, white, turquoise, green, and yellow, with each design offering a distinct visual character that enhances diversity across the streetscape.
The designs draw inspiration from Islamic and geometric patterns, as well as diverse calligraphic styles, incorporating star and floral elements that reinforce cultural identity and add a refined artistic touch to the urban landscape.
The decorations extend across key streets and locations, including Abu Dhabi Corniche and major roads such as Arabian Gulf Street, Sheikh Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street, and King Abdullah Street, in addition to internal roads, mainland cities, bridges, and islands. This wide coverage reflects the Municipality’s commitment to reaching all areas and enhancing community experience.
Al Maqta Bridge has been further enhanced with overhead and side installations in the same off-white palette, complemented by integrated spherical lighting elements. Approximately 1,200 illuminated spheres have been installed between lighting poles across multiple locations, creating a visually striking scene that blends modern design with a heritage-inspired character.
The Municipality ensured that all lighting structures are proportionate to street dimensions and safe for both motorists and pedestrians. The installations are energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable, and manufactured from recyclable materials, with high-quality insulation and resistance to weather conditions. All works are subject to continuous monitoring by specialised technical teams to ensure quality and performance.
