
Drawing more than 16,000 visitors, including families, residents and enthusiasts of Emirati heritage, Abu Dhabi City Municipality organised 'The Date Harvest Season' celebrations at Al Rahbah Plaza and Al Khatim Park. The initiative formed part of the Municipality's ongoing efforts to strengthen the presence of Emirati heritage within the community, highlight the significance of the date palm in the UAE's cultural identity, and support Emirati farms and locally produced goods through a diverse programme of community and heritage activities that brought together tradition, education and entertainment.
The Date Harvest Season event at Al Rahbah Plaza attracted more than 10,000 visitors from across the community. It aimed to introduce visitors to the traditional customs and crafts associated with the date palm while highlighting its enduring role in Emirati life as a symbol of generosity, sustainability and a deep connection to the land.
The event was organised in collaboration with a number of strategic partners, including ADNOC Distribution, KEZAD Group, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Burjeel Holdings, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), TAQA Distribution, the National Academy for Childhood Development, and the Family Development Foundation.
Visitors enjoyed a rich programme of interactive experiences that combined education with entertainment, featuring a wide range of activities designed for all age groups. The programme introduced audiences to aspects of Emirati heritage associated with the date harvest season, the date palm and traditional crafts, creating a welcoming family atmosphere that strengthened community connections and reinforced national identity.
At Al Khatim Park, Abu Dhabi City Municipality organised a similar event that attracted approximately 6,000 visitors, primarily targeting farm owners and residents of the Al Khatim area. The initiative formed part of the Municipality's preparations for the summer season and reflected its commitment to supporting local farmers while raising awareness of the importance of Emirati farms and their role in preserving the nation's agricultural and cultural heritage.
The event at Al Khatim Park was organised in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, Etihad Rail, Al Saadah Nursery, Lamar Planting Company, Al Foah Dates, Al Wathba Marionnet, MEK, and Al Khazna Leather.
The programme highlighted Emirati farms, traditional crafts and the cultural heritage associated with the date palm. It also featured the 'Tabshourat Al Rutab' competitions, celebrating the local date harvest while strengthening the community's connection to the harvest season and locally produced dates, and encouraging the preservation of the UAE's long-standing agricultural customs and traditions.
Through the organisation of The Date Harvest Season celebrations, Abu Dhabi City Municipality reaffirms its commitment to enhancing quality of life across residential communities, strengthening national identity, and supporting community initiatives that celebrate the UAE's authentic cultural heritage. These efforts also contribute to preserving and passing on the traditional knowledge and practices associated with the date palm and Emirati farming to future generations.
