Abu Dhabi

The Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, called on all entities operating in construction and work sites to adhere to the importance and obligation of providing the best occupational health and safety requirements. This will provide a safe environment for all workers at these sites, while simultaneously protecting the community ecosystem surrounding these projects. This came during an awareness workshop organized by the municipality as part of its participation and engagement in the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which falls on April 28, 2025.
The awareness workshops extended across a broad geographic area, encompassing multiple construction sites on Abu Dhabi Island. They were aimed at all key stakeholders in the construction and building sector—contractors, consultants, and developers— working in areas under the scope of Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s operations.
During the event, Abu Dhabi City Municipality marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work by reinforcing the importance of adopting international best practices to safeguard workers’ health and safety. The workshop aimed to elevate awareness around the implementation of Abu Dhabi’s Occupational Safety and Health System, as well as the enforcement of regulations specific to construction sites. The workshop activities focused on a systems-based approach to preventing workplace accidents and on creating optimal working environments that include all necessary precautions and preventive measures. It also emphasized the importance of meeting occupational health and safety requirements in the construction sector and fostering workplaces that are equipped with comprehensive safety protocols to minimize the risk of accidents.
The workshop featured interactive group discussions covering a range of topics, encouraging active participation from attendees and providing answers to many questions and inquiries raised by the participating entities. It also included
inspections of construction sites to verify compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, along with external audits of the entities and their safety-related obligations. The sessions addressed methods for preventing workplace accidents and managing occupational health and safety through effective tools designed to support ongoing improvement in safety performance. During its field visits, the Environment, Health, and Safety Department was keen to uplift workers’ morale by distributing small appreciation gifts.
