In line with its commitment to upholding the highest global standards of environmental, health, and safety practices across all slaughterhouses in Abu Dhabi, and to ensure the well-being of both slaughterhouse workers and the community, the Department of Municipalities and Transport—represented by Abu Dhabi City Municipality—has launched an inspection campaign across its affiliated slaughterhouses. The campaign aims to verify the readiness, preparedness, and arrangements of the facilities ahead of welcoming the public during the blessed Eid Al-Adha, and to ensure a safe environment for both workers and visitors.

The campaign involved inspection visits to all slaughterhouses under Abu Dhabi City Municipality, including the Abu Dhabi Automated Slaughterhouse, Al Shahama Slaughterhouse, Baniyas Slaughterhouse, and Al Wathba Slaughterhouse. These visits were carried out to confirm adherence to the environmental, health, and safety standards and requirements.

During the campaign, municipal inspectors ensured that slaughterhouse workers were compliant with the established environmental, health, and safety protocols. The campaign also aimed to raise awareness among the public, as well as among employees and operating staff, on the importance of maintaining a safe working environment that safeguards everyone’s well-being and ensures a clean and healthy setting within the slaughterhouses.

Furthermore, the campaign included educating slaughterhouse staff on the importance of safety compliance during slaughtering and meat-cutting processes. This included proper use of safety equipment and strict adherence to preventive measures by employees and operating personnel to ensure the safety of all. Staff were also trained on emergency response procedures, including the correct evacuation protocols and the designated external assembly points for each slaughterhouse.

In the same context, the campaign featured awareness workshops aimed at enhancing staff knowledge of safety standards and minimizing the environmental impact of slaughterhouse activities. These sessions also covered strategies for employees and workers of operating companies to manage the increasing number of visitors and sacrificial animals throughout the Eid Al-Adha period.
