Abu Dhabi City Municipality organised the “Little Inspector” initiative at Sheikh Hazza Mosque Park on Abu Dhabi Island and Al Falah City Square, targeting school students, children, and People of Determination. The initiative was held in collaboration with Tadweer Group and Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Community Police Department, as part of the Municipality’s efforts to raise awareness among younger generations of the importance of preserving public appearance, promoting sustainability, and protecting public facilities.
The initiative aimed to introduce children and students to the concept of sustainability and its objectives through a simple and engaging approach, while enhancing their awareness of environmental protection, cleanliness, public appearance, and the responsible use of public facilities. Participants were also introduced to the role of municipal inspectors in identifying practices and behaviours that may negatively affect the city’s urban appearance, and to the importance of their work in serving the community and supporting quality of life across Abu Dhabi.
The programme focused on encouraging a range of positive behaviours, including the responsible use of water and electricity, recycling, proper waste disposal, and the protection of public property and facilities. It also sought to strengthen social responsibility and encourage children to participate in environmental and community initiatives.
A number of educational and interactive workshops were delivered as part of the initiative, including an awareness session on maintaining public appearance and proper waste disposal, as well as a workshop on sustainable agriculture.
Participants were also trained to identify and classify visual distortions and undesirable behaviours, understand how to respond appropriately, and learn how to report observations through approved official channels. Practical activities and simulated scenarios helped transform awareness messages into real-life situations that children could easily understand and apply.
The initiative also featured an educational field tour supervised by specialists, giving participants the opportunity to experience the role of a “Little Inspector” by identifying simulated observations in the surrounding area. Interactive competitions and awareness questions were also organised to reinforce the information presented and develop participants’ skills in observation, creative thinking, innovation, teamwork, and cooperation.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality ensured the participation of People of Determination across the various activities, adapting the programme to suit their abilities and reinforcing the principles of inclusion and meaningful community participation. Gifts and awareness materials were also distributed to participants to further reinforce the environmental and social messages promoted through the initiative.
The “Little Inspector” initiative provided a practical model for transforming awareness from theoretical messages into engaging educational and field-based experiences. Through these activities, children and students were able to develop knowledge and practical skills in an accessible and enjoyable way, helping to nurture generations that are more aware of sustainability, environmental protection, and the preservation of the city’s urban appearance.
The initiative forms part of Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s commitment to involving children and students in community and awareness programmes through educational and interactive approaches that strengthen their sense of responsibility towards the environment and society, while encouraging them to play an active role in preserving natural resources and contributing to a more sustainable future.
