Throughout the year, more than 5.5 million seedlings are produced and used to plant approximately 99 million flowers, covering flower beds with a total area of nearly 400,000 square metres. Seasonal flowers are selected according to precise technical and environmental criteria, taking into consideration their ability to adapt to local climatic conditions, flowering duration, colour density and water-use efficiency. The varieties used include a diverse range of flowers, notably Vinca, Petunia, Amaranthus, Zinnia, Lantana, Marigold, Portulaca, Begonia, Stock, Hollyhock, Salvia, Delphinium, Gerbera, Aster, Celosia, Geranium, Viola, Cosmos, Sunflower, Freesia, Chrysanthemum and Dahlia, alongside other varieties that enrich the city’s plant diversity.
The Municipality incorporates a diverse palette of flower colours into carefully designed landscaping schemes that achieve visual harmony across different locations. These include shades of white, red, yellow, orange, pink, purple and blue, arranged through geometric designs that highlight the beauty of planted areas and provide a continuously refreshed appearance.
Seasonal planting programmes are implemented according to a schedule that takes local climatic conditions into account. The summer season begins in mid-May, when varieties capable of withstanding high temperatures are planted, while the winter season begins at the end of December and features the greatest diversity of varieties and colours, ensuring continuous flowering throughout the year.
The project includes integrated stages beginning with the removal of previous seasonal plants, preparation of flower beds, improvement of soil properties and application of organic fertilisers, followed by planting seedlings produced in the Municipality’s nurseries.
