Al Ain City Municipality is participating in the inaugural edition of the Al Ain Dates Festival 2026, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Ain Region, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority from 25 to 31 July at Al Sarooj Park in Al Ain.
Through an integrated pavilion, the municipality highlights the story of Al Ain’s oases as one of the city’s most significant cultural and environmental landmarks, showcasing a unique system that combines agricultural heritage, cultural identity, and sustainability.
The municipality’s participation focuses on its efforts to preserve the oases and safeguard their historical and environmental components as a national legacy for future generations.
Engineer Rashid Al Neyadi, Director of the Central City Operations and Maintenance Centre, said that the municipality’s pavilion offers visitors an interactive educational journey exploring the history of the oases, their environmental and cultural significance, the varieties of dates and fruits they produce, and the traditional falaj irrigation system, which has served as a unique model for water management and agricultural sustainability throughout history.
He added that the pavilion showcases the municipality’s work in managing and maintaining the oases and falaj systems through irrigation management, routine maintenance, cleaning operations, water distribution, agricultural pest control using environmentally friendly technologies, and the removal of agricultural waste to ensure the long-term sustainability of the oases.
The pavilion also highlights the municipality’s pioneering experience in recycling palm by-products into functional and aesthetic products, reflecting its commitment to the circular economy and environmental sustainability.
Visitors can explore a wide range of date varieties produced in Al Ain’s oases, alongside seasonal fruits and crops that demonstrate the richness of the city’s agricultural environment and the quality of its local produce.
The participation also supports the objectives of the Year of the Family 2026 by strengthening family connections with national heritage, promoting identity and belonging, and encouraging younger generations to preserve and pass on the UAE’s cultural legacy.
