The Department of Municipalities and Transport announced the completion of the development works at Clock Intersection in Al Ain, at a cost of approximately AED 32 million, establishing a new urban landmark that redefines the city’s urban landscape.
The project took 15 months to complete, with more than 82,000 working hours recorded without any injuries. The project focused on constructing a four-sided clock with a contemporary design inspired by the original clock that existed in the 1970s.
The new landmark stands 8 meters high and features illuminated arches supporting a suspended clock with four faces oriented toward the intersection’s traffic directions. The clock uses a smart lighting system capable of displaying light shows during events and celebrations.
Omega clocks were specially selected for the project. Each clock weighs 170 kg and has a diameter of 2.5 meters. The clocks operate with an automatic GPS-based time-adjustment system and include illuminated backgrounds to ensure clear nighttime visibility.
The clock was designed to withstand harsh climatic conditions without the need for a glass façade. It is constructed from fiberglass and mounted on a concrete foundation with a depth of 16.5 meters.
Installation works were completed within just two days according to the approved plan, and the clocks are operated centrally from the Al Ain City Municipality operations room.
