The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced the commencement of construction on a new dual carriageway linking Al Sarooj and the Industrial Area in Al Ain, with a total investment of AED 291.11 million. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of June 2027 and forms part of the department's strategic plans to develop transport infrastructure, improve traffic flow, and enhance quality of life by providing a safer and more efficient road network for residents.
Engineer Abdullah Hamdan Al Ameri, Executive Director of the Al Ain Infrastructure Sector, said the project involves the construction of a new 3.2-kilometre dual carriageway in each direction, connecting Al Masoud Intersection in the Industrial Area with the new signalised junction at Falcon Roundabout on the Al Sarooj–Industrial Area Road. The project is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel times, and enhance road safety in response to the area's rapid urban growth and increasing traffic volumes, while supporting sustainable development and improving the quality of life in Al Ain.
Al Ameri added that the works include the construction of major intersections, a box culvert for stormwater drainage, and a 120-metre tunnel passing beneath Naqfa Mountain, designed and built in accordance with the highest engineering and technical standards.
The project also features integrated infrastructure works, including stormwater drainage networks, modern street lighting systems, traffic signage, a 5.2-kilometre cycling track, and 6 kilometres of pedestrian walkways. In addition, six roadside bus bays will be constructed, and 500 trees will be planted as part of the urban landscaping programme. These enhancements will contribute to creating a distinctive urban landmark, strengthening the area's visual identity, improving the public realm, and further enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency.
